Thin in a Fat World

Everything about our culture: the fast food, delicious food, convenient food, long work hours, over stressed and underpaid....it's tragic. When do we make TIME and GOOD CHOICES for ourselves?  There's no time, no money, we don't feel good.....excuses, excuses, excuses.
When do we get our big butts to the gym and DO SOMETHING???  MOVE!! BE ACTIVE!!
Well I don't blame you- working out isn't very fun when you can hear your big butt cheeks clapping for ya behind you!
I don't know about you- but once I'm home from work- good luck getting me out of the house again.
Today is DAY ONE of LENT....I'm sure lots of you made New Year's Resolutions...what was it again??
Nevermind. You are never going to have that reflection that you WANT to see in the dressing room (and we all know what I'm talking about). You know- buying something because you LOVE it, not because it helps camouflage the flab. That IS attainable but it takes WORK.
And you have to do it for yourself and no one else. You have to make up your mind that you are WORTH the effort, the time, the money and make YOURSELF a priority.

I did some research, texted some friends (skinny ones) and came up with this list.  It's hardly scientific, and probably nothing you don't already know. But hopefully tonight (or tomorrow...or maybe even next Monday) you will decide to start doing something about this Fat Culture we are emerged in and be amazing on the outside JUST FOR YOU.  Even if it's purely for the dressing room mirror (that I would so love to punch in the face).

Chew gum

You can’t eat if your mouth is full (sugarfree of course- don’t want to rot those pearly whites!)
Use mouthwash often
It will make you not want to snack because you won’t want to mix your fresh breath with food.
Paint your fingernails
You cannot easily snack with wet nails!
Drink lots of water
A tummy full of fluids is less likely to tell your brain that you’re starving.
Always eat breakfast-
Some nutritionists recommend popping something into your mouth within 30 minutes of waking- so that your body is sent the signal to start burning fat!
Cut out WHITE foods

Yup this means  bread, cookies, sugar, pasta (focus more on veggies and fruit)
Want to cut out carbs but can’t go all the way?
Cut out carbs AFTER NOON
Eat whatever you like for breakfast and lunch but NO WHITE FOOD after lunch time……
Be picky about veggies

Put gas-producing produce like cauliflower and broccoli on the black list when dieting. Stock up instead on watery veggies and fruits like lettuce, celery, cucumbers, watermelon, melon, oranges, and grapes, which help banish bloat by flushing out your system. Pile those plates high with asparagus and green beans-they are high in fiber and less likely to bloat your tummy.
Turn up the HEAT!
Add red pepper flakes, chopped jalapeños, and hot pepper sauce to your food. The hotter the food, the less hungry you are.
Pack SNACKS
Tote around 150-calorie snacks in coolers wherever you go. Some suggestions are apple slices and low-fat string cheese, a few crackers topped with chicken salad, or a few slices of rolled-up turkey and a handful of grapes. It's really important to eat something, even if it's just 150 to 200 calories, every three to four hour- your blood sugar can drop quickly and make you be hungry enough to kill!
GET AN APP
There's a ton out there- get one on your phone to help calculate calories, workouts and more!
Ex: My Fitness Pal- helps you connect with friends who will hold you accountable.
3 day fruit cleanse
heehee, funny picture- right? Well at least she's skinny!
Only fresh fruits and 100% juices….. I will admit I’ve tried this one, and while you’re out buying your fresh fruits, pick up some butt cream- because you’re gonna need it!
Drink TEA instead of COFFEE
Green tea is loaded with caffeine and can give you that same morning JOLT without all the cream and calories.
Fruit for Breakfast
Eat 3 pieces of fruit, spaced 10 minutes apart- to get your day (and metabolism) off to a great start!
Go to SLEEP!
Rested people eat less and are more active. Tired people are more apt to eat junk food and not exercise. Turn off the tv and go to bed. You deserve to wake up feeling revived.
Make a lunch that LASTS...
Pack a lunch that takes you more than 5 minutes to eat- that way when lunch is over you’ve sat there long enough to FEEL full. A lunch that involves lots of little things... not your typical sandwich and a beverage. How long would that take you to eat? For example, add chopped veggies, low fat crackers, along with a slice of low fat cheese, and then finish it off with apple slices and lemon. Savor your meals, don’t inhale them.

Go SIMPLE
Less is more. The fresher and plainer that your foods are- the better. Avoid processed, preservative filled foods. Stick to the edges of the grocery store (meat, produce, dairy) and then get outta there! (and buy Organic when you can ESPECIALLY meat and dairy) The hormones in dairy, meat, and poultry raise estrogen levels, which can cause you to hold onto body fat. Even the pesticides on non organic fruits and veggies inhibit hormonal activity in the body, leading to weight gain. I’m not saying EVERYTHING you buy must be organic- but be picky. It’s your body- you only get one of them and isn’t it worth a little bit of extra money to FEEL GOOD and put GOOD THINGS in your body???

Keep a ready-to-go gym bag in the car
$22 Thirtyone Organizing Utility Tote

NO EXCUSES, right? Don’t go home! You will never go to the gym if you go home. It’s got to be first thing in the morning or on your way home from work. Be prepared. You’ll have so much more energy for your kids, spouse, and even for cooking dinner!! –if you give your body one hour of time.  GET ACTIVE!
Toning Shoes
Gonna hang around the house all weekend? Go to the mall? Get your toning shoes on!
WALK to get the mail
It's amazing what the fresh evening air can do to your mood. Park your car and go WALK and get the mail. Maybe say hello to one of your neighbors.  Spend some sacred daylight when you get home from work... OUTSIDE.
And last but not least...LOVE YOURSELF!
Get healthy for you and only you, because you LOVE your body-not because you hate it.
Make positive choices every single day that will impact not only your physical body but your spirit and mind.
Make time for YOU.
